Watch a video about the project:
See here for more information: http://jakerunestad.com/home/DreamsOfTheFallen.html
About the work: Led by new music enthusiast and respected pianist Jeffrey Biegel, a consortium of choirs and orchestras is being assembled for an exciting new commission of award-winning young composer Jake Runestad. Combining the musical forces of solo piano, chorus, and orchestra with powerful texts written by Iraq War veteran and award-winning poet Brian Turner, the new work explores a soldier's emotional response to the experience of war. There are opportunities to become involved in the project as a private donor and a commissioning ensemble. Please contact Jeffrey Biegel or Jake Runestad for more information and to participate in this culturally important and historic project. Title: Dreams of the Fallen Duration: 20 minutes Structure: The work is divided into three sections corresponding to a soldier’s pre-deployment (The Provocation), service (The Invocation), and post- deployment (The Supplication). Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2 4.2.3.1 Timpani +3 Piano Harp Strings Concert Pairings: Britten: War Requiem Barber: Adagio Elgar: Enigma Variations Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) Copland: Symphony No. 3 Community Involvement: Biegel, Runestad, and Turner are interested in participating in pre-concert talks and other educational opportunities involved with the creation of the work and its cultural relevance. Ensembles are encouraged to partner with local museums, schools, and military organizations to promote the work and its inspiration: the men and women of our armed services both past and present.
