Christmas at Luther broadcast on PBS

Location: Minnesota, USA

PBS Television will broadcast an encore presentation of the 2008 "Christmas at Luther: Night of Glory, Dawn of Peace" program on the morning of Christmas Day. The 2008 performance was filmed and produced in high-definition widescreen with 5.1 Dolby surround sound by Twin Cities Public Television (TPT). TPT won a regional Emmy award for “Best Special Event Coverage” for the program that was broadcast nationwide on more than 100 public television stations in December 2008 as a PBS Holiday Special. Broadcast times on PBS stations across the country vary.

The internationally renowned choirs and instrumental ensembles of Luther College celebrate the joy and traditions of Christmas at the college's annual Christmas concert. Breathtaking music, robed choristers, and glowing candlelight capture the wonder and excitement of the season.

More than 600 Luther student musicians present traditional holiday carols and sacred Christmas choral anthems, performing in one of the nation's top college concert halls, the Luther College Center for Faith and Life.

The concert includes performances by the Nordic Choir under the direction of Craig Arnold (now Allen Hightower), Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Baldwin, Cantorei under the direction of Linda Martin, Cathedral Choir and Aurora under the direction of Sandra Peter, Collegiate Chorale and Norsemen under the direction of Timothy Peter, and Luther Ringers under the direction of Gregory Peterson.

Organist is Gregory Peterson. Ann Sponberg Peterson is the narrator.

Each year, more than 8,000 people attend the Christmas at Luther performances on the Luther campus.

Luther College is a liberal arts college with a long and nationally recognized tradition of excellence in music education and performance.

Nearly 1,000 student musicians participate in the college's six choirs, three bands, three orchestras, and two jazz bands. In addition to large musical ensembles, students are involved in opera, faculty-coached chamber ensembles, master classes, and private lessons.

The vibrancy of Luther's music program is rooted in a balance between the academic rigor of the music major program and the numerous opportunities for study and performance by students from all disciplines. The result is one of the largest and most highly regarded collegiate music programs in the nation.  For more information, visit www.luther.edu.
