Do you have Insurance?

Our new non-profit boychoir is exploring insurance options. The Board wants D & O insurance. Insurance companies want to sell us general liability, D & O, and Accident insurance for about $1300. What coverage, if any, does your choir have?

Julia - we are in our 30th anniversary year and we pay about the same price for what you have mentioned too.  You really want the best Board members you can find; connected community leaders . . . and they want AND expect coverage.  At our two camps we have the boys at, they want our coverage policy which is at 1 million.  You've got to have this in these days and times - sigh!

We purchase general liability insurance, which costs about $800 annually. We buy it through Fractured Atlas, an Arts Service Organization based in New York.

Julia, D&O coverage is something often overlooked by boards of small non-profits, but it's absolutely crucial.  $1,300 for those coverages combined is a good rate. I'm guessing that your agent is quoting you in First Non-profit or another specialty carrier. I do very strongly recommend that you purchase that full package.

(In between teaching jobs I was a D&O insurance underwriter for several years.)
