Choral Master's programs in New York

I am a middle school choir teacher in Texas looking to get into a master's program in Manhattan.  My fiancé currently works and resides in Manhattan and has been asked to stay with her job for longer that originally anticipated.

Unfortunately, I have not had ample time to research and apply for schools in the area.  any help would be greatly appreciated.  Are any schools still accepting applications at this point? I realize that most deadlines have already passed. But I would love to get  in for the fall.

I had a friend at Columbia Teachers Music Ed. Check them out. Contact us when in NYC.

It's 90-120 minutes north on the Hudson River, but Bard College has such a masters. You can get there by train. At least worth looking into.

Yes, I'm a student at Bard and I'm pretty sure they are still accepting applications.  I'd be happy to talk with you about it.  Westminster Choir College in NJ has a program in commuting distance of NYC, Temple in Philadelphia also does.  I'm not aware of any programs in NYC itself....maybe someone else is?

Cali School of Music At Montclair State is an easy commute, and there might be something there for you. No specific conducting graduate degree as far as I know, though.

Unfortunately there is no graduate conducting program at Montclair State Uniiversity - John Cali School of Music at MSU is a good school with strong leadership - this is an area that they should consider. Westminster Choir College in Princeton has a Master's Degree program in choral conducting which is unsurpassed.

We are developing a masters program in choral conducting at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College-CUNY. If you are interested, you can check out our website (www.qc.cuny.edu/music) or contact me directly. It may be possible to accept someone as early as fall 2012, though this is not certain. Sincerely, James John.
