"The Glee Effect" survey for grad school - please spare a minuteDate: March 15, 2012 Views: 3263
Hello fellow choir teachers! I'm new to this website, so this is my first post. I am conducting a survey as part of my masters project at Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, IL. My project is about the pros and cons of singing TV shows and what kind of influence they have on choir students of all ages. For part of my project, I have desiged a teacher survey. It's brief - it should only take you a few minutes. Please click on the link below. Thanks so much for helping out!
(p.s. If you click on the link and it doesn't work, let me know - I'm not sure if I posted it correctly)

Your survey link worked... I think we'd all be interested in the data that you find. If possible, please post when your survey is complete!!

Hi Felicia -- I just read your research project. You should definitely pick up my book SWEAT TEARS AND JAZZ HANDS: The official history of show choir from Vaudeville to Glee. My co-author (Colleen Hart) and I spend at least two chapters tracking the emergence of swing choir/show choir along with the creation of television musical variety shows. Show choir today is completely enfluenced by television (pop musical shows, award shows, movies) and in turn, GLEE has ironically been enfluencing show choir! I'm completely fascinated by the subject and have consequentially become an expert on the topic.
Best of luck with your project. My book will give you plenty of factual information about televisions enfluence on choral education. Enjoy.
I live here in Chicago -- so, if you'd like to contact me directly. mikeweaver.mac(a)mac.com

Thanks Mike, sounds like an interesting book, I'll check it out! Ronald, Wendy - I'll post a link to my project once it's complete in August. It will be archived on my college's website.

Anyone who plans to take the survey but hasn't yet, I'm hoping to collect all the reponses by around April 1st, so I can start tallying the data. Thanks for helpling out!

You're right. It only takes about a minute. Thanks for the nudge. Can't wait to see your results.

Felicia: You neglected to say in your original post that your survey is only for elementary and secondary teachers, which is going to skew your results. I took it anyway, and I have to say that it's typical of student surveys, with questions based on pre-decided assumptions. I hope you will get useful data out of it.
