"Words In Music Symposium" hosted by WomenSing
Date: March 29, 2012
Location: California, USA
WomenSing invites you to attend a fascinating panel discussion, led by internationally acclaimed composers Libby Larsen and Sandra Milliken and extensively-published poet Francisco Alarcón.
The “Words In Music” Symposium, a part of WomenSing's Youth Inspiring Youth music-commissioning project, will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 10 AM to 1 PM. This event is co-sponsored and hosted by St. Mary’s College, home of our Youth Inspiring Youth partner, River of Words at the Center for Environmental Literacy. The free Symposium will be in Hagerty Lounge at St. Mary’s College.
You are invited to join the leaders and participants before the Symposium, at 9:30 AM for greetings, coffee and beverages. Following the symposium, you are also invited to reserve a complimentary light lunch and the opportunity for 15-minute one-on-one “buttonhole” conversations with the leaders. You can sign up for these conversations during our greeting time or just step in, as the leaders are available.
If you are planning to attend, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. In order to reserve a place at the complimentary lunch and/or conversation-time, WomenSing must receive a request sent to email@example.com by Wednesday April 25th, 2012.
Join WomenSing at the Words In Music Symposium where leaders and participants will explore questions like:
Why does a composer choose one poem over another?
Are some texts more suitable to music than others?
How might different composers set the same texts?
What commission/commissioner parameters influence a work?
