April 2012 Membership Update

Hi ACDA-PA members!

"Spring is sprung, the grass is riz.  I wonder where the birdies is..." (Anonymous poet from Brooklyn).  It may feel like summer's here already, but we choral musicians know that we can't take a break yet, because the busiest time of the year is still to come.  We hope your rehearsals and concerts are going well!

Here are a few short reminders about upcoming ACDA-PA events. Remember to check our website at www.acdapa.org. On the "News and Announcements" page, you can find more information about the summer conference and the Intergenerational Honor Choir... and while you're there, be sure to click on the icons for ACDA-PA's Facebook page and for the Choralnet Community too!

Dr. Janet Galván, conductor, July 28-29, 2012   State College, PA

ONE MONTH REMAINING TO REGISTER!

ACDA-PA is pleased to announce the 2012 Intergenerational Honor Choir! This honor choir is open to all adult singers as well as student singers ages 9th grade through college. High school, college, church, and community singers and their directors are all encouraged to participate! This year’s honor choir is designed to provide opportunities for mentorship and integration between singers and their directors. Directors throughout Pennsylvania may select 4 singers to participate from their high school, collegiate, or community ensembles: 1 soprano, 1 alto, 1 tenor, and 1 bass per director. If you would like to bring additional singers, feel free! Please fill out an additional application form for every four participants. Directors and students will sing side by side in the same choir under the direction of Dr. Janet Galván.  Community ensemble members and college and university students will have the opportunity to serve as role models for high school students, and directors will provide mentorship within the ensemble as they participate fully with their singers. Directors will also have the opportunity to collaborate and network with other conductors from around the state of Pennsylvania in what will certainly be an exciting and memorable musical experience.

Registration for this event is $95.00 for all singers, which includes music, meals, snacks/water, performance CDs, conductor’s fee, accompanist’s fee, and facility fees. A discounted rate of $75.00 is being offered to high school singers who also register for and participate in the Future Music Educators Day on July 30th and to all other singers who also register for and participate in the rest of the ACDA-PA Summer Conference on July 29th-July 31stSee conference registration information for more details. Each director who brings 4 or more students may participate in the honor choir free of charge. Due to ACDA policy, the registration fee does not include hotel costs. Directors of high school students are responsible for securing hotel rooms for their students. A block of rooms will be held at the Days Inn in State College until an announced date. All directors and chaperones of high school students must stay at the Days Inn with their students. Rooms will also be held for collegiate and community ensemble singers and their directors at State College Quality Inn. Collegiate and community ensemble singers and their directors will be responsible for securing their own rooms.
