Choral Music of Joel Feigin Performed by New Century Voices at University of California at Santa Barbara on April 14
 
Joel Feigin’s Song on Loving-Kindness will be presented by New Century Voices, directed by Katherine Saxon on Saturday, April 14 – at 4:00 PM at the Student Affairs and Administrative Services Building on the campus of University of California at Santa Barbara. This will be part of the school’s Primavera Festival of Contemporary Arts and Digital Media, which runs from April 2 through 15.
 
Joel Feigin is one of the Festival’s Featured Composers. His Song on Loving-Kindness, with a text adapted by Jaime Manrique and the composer, is based on the Pali "Loving-Kindness Sutra" ("Metta Sutta").

New Century Voices is a vocal ensemble dedicated to performing music written by students, faculty and alumni at UCSB. The ensemble was founded by Katherine Saxon in 2008 and is made up of undergraduate and graduate students as well as community members and alumni. Over the last five years the group has performed on numerous student recitals and compositions concerts at UCSB as well as venues in Ventura and Los Angeles.
 
Joel Feigin is a composer whose works have been widely praised for their "very strong impact, as logical in musical design as they are charged with emotion and drama." (Opera Magazine). His latest opera, Twelfth Night, based on the play by William Shakespeare, was chosen for New York City Opera’s VOX Showcase series. His opera Mysteries of Eleusis was performed at the Moscow Conservatory and the Russian-American Operatic Festival. Commissions include a Fromm Commission for Aviv: Concerto for Piano and Chamber Orchestra, written for Yael Weiss, as well as piano works for Margaret Mills and Leonard Stein, two orchestral works for the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, and many chamber works. His CDs include the North/South Recordings 2-CD set, Transience, as well as two major piano works performed by Margaret Mills in Meditations and Overtones on Cambria Master Recordings. Feigin’s next CD will appear this Fall on the MSR label, featuring violist Helen Callus. A Professor of composition at the University of California Santa Barbara, Dr. Feigin studied with Nadia Boulanger at Fontainebleau and with Roger Sessions at The Juilliard School.
