The Last words of David

Hi, Im a sophmore Music Education student at University of Southern Maine, and I had a question about The Last Words of David. I was wondering what people have done with phrasing at the end of sections. When you have a line that ends with a half note connected to the eigth what is the general consensus on these lines should they be cut off very persisly or rather more of a fade out. Ex. the held out "god" at rehearsal 2.
Thank you for any help

Not that this is the definitive answer, but I do a precise cutoff on the beat there and in similar spots.
