The Susquehanna Chorale's 30th Annivesary Celebration will culminate with a set of spring concerts. Under the direction of founder, conductor and artistic director Linda Tedford, the chorale will perform pieces from their past as well as selections new to the group. Britten's "Festival Te Deum," Whitacre's "Cloudburst," and Rutter's "Wells Jubliate" are just a few of the highlights to be performed at this historic event. The program also includes traditional American songs ("Shenandoah," "Steal Away," "Colorado Trail," "Buffalo Gals") and several pieces from contemporary composers (Stephen Paulus' "Pilgrims' Hymn," Craig Hella Johnson's "Light of a Clear Blue Morning"). In addition, the Chorale will perform "Baba Yetu" - a unique Swahili setting of The Lords Prayer by composer Christopher Tin, known for it's use in the popular video game Civilization IV.
The Susquehanna Chorale was founded in 1981 by Artistic Director Linda L. Tedford, and has emerged as one of this country’s outstanding choral ensembles. In 1994, the Chorale was honored with Chorus America’s highest national award: The Margaret Hillis Achievement Award for Choral Excellence. The group’s four CDs have received national recognition, with Wondrous Love and American Treasures being offered Grammy Condsideration. In 2009, the Chorale became Artists-in-Residence at Messiah College in Grantham, PA. Ms. Tedford was honored in August with the 2011 Elaine Brown Award, presented by the American Choral Directors Association of Pennsylvania at their summer conference in State College, Pa.
