The Mansfield University Chamber Singers under the direction of Peggy Dettwiler will perform a concert of music in praise of animals entitled, De Animals a-comin’, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Steadman Theatre. The performance will feature both secular and sacred music from 13th century chant on a text honoring St. Francis of Assisi, to madrigals of the 16th century, to blues and boogies of the 20th century. Sections of the concert are titled “For the Birds,” “Cats & Dogs,” and “The Beasts of the Fields.” The 16-voice group will divide into quartets as well as men’s & women’s ensembles in addition to singing all together. Some of the music cleverly mimics the sounds of birds, cats, dogs, and various other creatures.
Leaders of Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries have been invited to promote their cause and bring several animals that are ready for adoption to be greeted by concert attendees, before and after the performance. The entire event will focus on the importance of animals in our lives and our duty as human beings to care for them.
The program is offered free of charge, but donations will be accepted to benefit Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries.
