For our spring concert, In a World of Our Own, Philadelphia
Voices of Pride (PVOP) is ushering in a few changes. We are excited to welcome a new artistic director,
Daniel Schwartz. We are also pleased to announce that we are performing in a new venue, the Trinity
Center for Urban Life. PVOP is Philadelphia’s premier Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer, and
Allied mixed‐voice chorus.
Daniel Schwartz is a recent graduate of Temple University’s Master’s Program for Choral Conducting. At
his graduation in 2011, he was honored with the Elaine Brown Award for musicianship, dedication to
excellence, and humanitarianism. Along with holding the position of Artistic Direction or Philadelphia
Voices of Pride, Dan is the Conducting Apprentice and Core Singer with the Mendelssohn Club of
Philadelphia, singer and Artistic Committee member of The Crossing, and future singer with the Opera
Company of Philadelphia Chorus for their 2012/13 season.
In a World of Our Own showcases songs that are especially meaningful to our chorus. Think of it as a
choral I‐Pod on shuffle. Unsurprisingly, themes of love appear throughout—quirky (the Beatles’ “When
I’m 64”), self‐love (Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful”), and yearning (Queen’s “Somebody to Love”). PVOP
members’ love of classical music (Faure’s “In Paradisum”), opera (Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus”), and Broadway
(Spamalot’s “The Song That Goes Like This”) are also illustrated in this concert.
In a World of Our Own will be held Saturday, June 9 at the Trinity Center for Urban Life, 2212 Spruce
Street, Philadelphia, PA. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the door. What better way to celebrate
Pride weekend then with a concert full of stirring music. We are sure that the audience will love this
extraordinary concert.
