ACDA 2012 Summer Dialogue August 7-10, 2012 Saint John's University - Collegeville, Minnesota Strong Foundations: Blueprints for Success
Summer Dialogue has, over the past 27 years, become a meaningful and special tradition for all of us in
ACDA-MN. Summer Dialogue has many meanings for many people: a time for refl ection, a time for relaxation and connection with cherished friends and colleagues, and a time for that needed renewal and rejuvenation just as the school year begins.
Dialogue is a four-day adventure fi lled with music reading sessions for every age and ability level. Each day
we form a reading choir as our R&S Chairs lead us through the best of ‘new and tried and true’ pieces they have been perusing the past year. Further, we come together to form a performance choir, rehearsed and conducted by a chosen peer. Lastly, we delve into topics presented by our own members, with plenty of time for dialogue with one another afterwards. Some of our best ideas and inspirations come over a meal or “afterglow” with one another.
This summer, our four days are at the beautiful and pastoral Saint John’s University campus. The theme and focus for our week
together, Strong Foundations: Blueprints for Success will bring us thought provoking sessions and outstanding clinicians that will present relevant topics that not only build upon the foundations of successful choral programs, but will help us all set the stage to strengthen and expand our programs for the future. We’ll focus upon sight-reading methods, score interpretation, and review the latest trends utilizing technology as an administrative and useful educational tool in the classroom. Minnesota native Craig Hella Johnson, the founding and artistic director of the world renowned Conspirare, will lead and inspire us in our Director’s Chorus to fully access and experience the artistic and spiritual dimension of choral music in a profound and meaningful way.
At the core of Dialogue is the music and our community. It is the music that calls us and brings us together. Making that music
together connects us with one another. That music and those connections inspire us to become better choral directors. We leave for our homes excited for another season of choral music.
This is why we come together each summer! Be inspired! Join Us!
