Philomusica Concert Choir December 2012 Concerts
Music Director - Dennis Boyle
Open the Holiday season with Philomusica Concert Choir’s concerts on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 8 pm, and on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at 3 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Route 18 South, Old Bridge, NJ. This program will have full orchestra and four professional soloists.
Back by audience demand, the Choir will open the program with George Frederic Handel’s “The Messiah”, Part One, the Christmas Portion. Handel’s “Organ Concerto, Opus 4, No. 2, in B Flat Major” follows, with organist Shea Velloso. Handel’s concertos were typically played between parts of his oratorios, often by Handel himself.
The next two selections have carols as their bases. “Christmas Day – a choral fantasy on old carols”, by Gustav Holst, interweaves a number of well-known carols such as “The First Noel” and “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen” into a cohesive whole. James Bassi’s “Carol Symphony”, uses variations on “The Carol of the Bells”, “Wexford Carol”, and “Tomorrow Shall be My Dancing Day”.
The Finale is the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ from “The Messiah”, with audience invited to participate on stage with the Choir.
Advance tickets are $17 adults; $15 students/senior; $8 children under 13. All tickets are $2 more at the door.
