Profile: Elvie Williams, Hoboken

By Alexander Santora

HOBOKEN, NJ -- Elvie Williams was singing in the Our Lady of Sorrows choir as an infant, according to Dominican Sister Elise Redmerski, pastoral minister.

Williams’ mom, Maria, would bring him to choir practice and she recalled how he would cry in whatever pitch the choir was singing.  She shared this story as she thanked the crowd that attended the “Swords Into Plowshares” concert held recently at the church on Clerk Street in Jersey City.  Williams, now 23, has advanced from infant rehearsals to a real musical talent after graduating this spring from the prestigious Westminster Choir College in Princeton. He has a powerful voice, plays the piano and organ, and evidently is quite a conductor and music impresario.
