Faust is a magnificent work for opera lovers as well as first-time opera goers. It has beautiful singing, magic, dance, and a romantic-tragic story. It has its roots in the age-old story of Faust and Mephistopheles, but the opera is less sinister and much more romantic.
Highlights include the church scene with the organ accompaniment which was unheard of at the time of its premiere; the famous uplifting trio before Marguerite's ascension into heaven; the musical detail and beauty of the quartet in the garden scene. This work was thoroughly modern at its premiere and has made its mark and established itself as one of the most important contributions to French music.
Performed in French with English supertitles. Directed by Tim Kennedy. Chorerographer/Costumer Bernadine DeMike. Sets by David Butler. Lighting Design by Tom Kostusiak.
Cast includes Salvatore Atti (Faust), Laura Noack (Marguerite) and Nicholas Kilkenny (Mephistopheles). Chorus includes singers from the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus.
Tickets are $30 or $25 for seniors and students.
