Preces and Responses in Sibelius 7Date: September 12, 2012 Views: 1453
Part of my job as choir administrator is engraving my own editions of copyright-free music. Preces and Responses make up quite a large part of this.
I've googled till I'm blue in the face and read the appropriate article in the knowledge-base but I can't seem to be able to completely hide the other staffs in any but the first versicle. The link below will illustrate the problem. If any of you have managed to crack this problem I'd be eternally grateful for a step-by-step guide.
Many thanks in anticipation
Derek

Hi, Derek. I assume that you want the rest of the intonations to look just like the first one, right? The trouble is that I can't figure out how you got that first one to print as it is, or how you managed to separate the intonations from the responses in the rest of the examples. I would need to see the original Sib file to try to see that, and even then might not be able to. Could you provide a step by step guide to how you got what you have, so that I might try to reconstruct it?
Have you inquired on any of the official (or unofficial) Sibelius forums? That's a much better place to try to find a definite answer.
All the best,
John

Here's the sib file https://dl.dropbox.com/u/44540479/Bertalot%20Preces.sib
The step-by-step is:
The problem is that subsequent intonations dont hide the clefs, key signatures and brace on the SAB lines, as you can see.

I can tell you a workaround:
1. Create your score with only one staff, the tenor staff.
2. On each line, split the system where you need it split.
3. After all the systems are split, highlight only the right portion of one line.
4. Create two "Ossia" staves above the tenor, and one below the tenor (these will be small staves).
5. Open the "Edit Instrument" window; the three ossia staves will be listed. Click each one, and uncheck the "small staff" box at the bottom.
Unfortunately, you will have to do this for each line. That means you will add three more staves to the overall score for each system, ending up with a large number of staves listed in the Instruments window, but it will accomplish what you are trying to do.
Contact me off list if you need more help.
