Annual Dessert Cabaret Fundraiser Concert
Zephyr Vocal Ensemble's scintillating fall Dessert Cabaret returns Sept. 29th, Saturday evening at 7:00 in Newton, NJ. Held on the stage in the social hall of the First United Methodist Church of Newton, the show will feature energetic performances of opera, classical, jazz, Broadway music, pop, and others. In addition to the members of Zephyr Vocal Ensemble, who are themselves professional performers, guest artists will include the well-known married vocal duo, Barbara and J.B. Davis, presenting Broadway tunes, as well as Oberlin College graduate John Meredith on the flute and Lucas Rau on his guitar. Solos, duets, small-group and full-group performances will pack a powerful evening, including Zephyr's own brand of excellent and finely-honed a cappella music.
This year features songs by Stephen Sondheim, Adele, George & Ira Gershwin, the Beatles, an operatic aria by Giacomo Rossini, a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach for violin, oboe, and piano; a Renaissance madrigal; tango music performed by flute and piano; Latin music; and rollicking music from the beloved musical theatre show, Guys and Dolls (staged).
The ambiance will be romantic for a relaxing evening out, with candlelight, flowers, and desserts at every table. Desserts this year are "all you can eat," free with admission, and will be served "family style" at each table. Special serving tables for homemade gluten free, nut free, and kosher desserts, coffee and tea will be available.
New this year will be a children's movie (Tangled) and popcorn in a separate room so that parents can enjoy an evening out together without worrying about a sitter. Responsible child care provided. Potty-trained children, only.
The church is located at 111 Ryerson Ave. (near the high school) in Newton. Seating is limited in this new venue and should be reserved in advance. Advance tickets may be purchased online at http://www.zephyrve.org/purchase-tickets by Sept. 27th, or by calling (973) 400-ZEPH (9374) to place an advance reservation and pay at the door. Admission is $20 regular, $10 teens/seniors, $5 children 12 and under.
