BELVEDERE, ZIMBABWE -- The Methodist Church in Zimbabwe's Harare Central District held its annual choral music convention at the Belvedere Teachers' College last Saturday. The music convention, which was hosted by the church's Budiriro circuit, attracted close to 40 choirs drawn from different circuits from Harare Central District.
These choirs competed for honours at the college where emphasis was mainly on promoting choral music in the church and seeking to encourage creativity and talent among members using a variety of musical instruments in choral music. Participating choirs were split into group, namely Group A up to Group E and of these, choirs in Group C used traditional instruments while those pooled in Group E made use of modern instruments. Group D, which was nicknamed the Group of Death, due to its strong contenders. Among choirs at the convention were Sunningdale Church Choir, Glen View, Budiriro 4 and 5, Mbare, Southerton, Hatfield, Parktown and Cranborne. |
