BBC Radio 3 to broadcast choral evensong from Bath Abbey

BATH, UK -- Bath’s famous abbey has been chosen as the setting for a national broadcast on the radio – less than a month after its hallowed arches hosted a first radio programme.

Back in September, BBC Radio 4 broadcast the morning service from Bath Abbey, with more than a million listeners tuning in.  And now tomorrow, the abbey has been chosen by BBC Radio 3 to broadcast its choral evensong live.  The Abbey’s director of music Peter King will conduct the choir, while the organ will be played by Marcus Sealy.  The music chosen for the illustrious broadcast includes Elgar, Byrd and Howells and the evensong service will be led by lay reader Jeremy Key-Pugh.

“It is a great privilege to be invited to broadcast on national radio regularly, and in particular for BBC Radio 3’s Choral Evensong which is the longest running outside broadcast in the world and has long been considered the standard bearer for traditional church music,” said Mr King. “It promises to be a beautiful and inspiring service broadcast and will hopefully be enjoyed by many people all around the world.”
