Ron: As I recall, that's something that Robert Shaw had his singers practice. He also taught them how to sit and stand up without making a lot of noise. The key is simply to do it as slowly as is necessary to avoid the noise. (And the other kind of binding--comb binding?--is a lot noisier than spiral binding because there are edges for the pages to scrape against rather than rounded coils.) But any kind of binding that requires page turns, including plain ol' folded pages, CAN be noisy if people are not taught to do it quietly.
