Cantori New York on Saturday November 3, 2012
Date: October 31, 2012
Location: New York, USA
Notwithstanding the ravages of Hurricane Sandy, Cantori New York plans to forge ahead with this weekend's concert (though we are scrambling to reschedule rehearsals!). A concert highlight will be the US premiere of Dutch composer Jacques Bank's remarkable cantata Felix und Clara, for chorus, string quartet, and speaker, about the difficult relationship of Clara Schumann with her son Felix. The spoken role of Clara will be taken by noted New York actor Kathleen Chalfant; Cantori New York will sing the role of Felix; the Cassatt String Quartet accompanies. Also on the program: the premiere of Four Songs by Canadian-American composer Frank Brickle; and the New York premiere of Libby Larsen's Alaska Spring. Jacques Bank has managed to get on a plane to attend the performance, but Brickle has had to cancel his trip. We are hopeful the performance will take place in the planned venue, the Church of St. Luke in the Fields in Greenwich Village, though that part of New York is still without power as of Wednesday.
