Second Coming of Christ choral music

My church has requested that I give a short presentation on choral music that uses the Second Coming of Christ as its theme.

"Since By Man Came Death" and "Worthy is the Lamb" from Handel's Messiah; "Et expecto" from Bach's Mass in B minor (or maybe a setting of that same text by another composer); and Dies Irae movements from Requiem settings (Mozart, Verdi, etc.) all are ideas that have come to mind.

I'd appreciate any of your suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Richard,

Musica Russica has a beautiful piece by Gavriil Lomakin called "I Ponder Upon the Fearful Day" which has been set in English. As a conductor, Lomakin was notorious for his expressive interpretation of sacred music.

You may be interested in a CD called "Sing the God of Ultimate Justice" by the Schola Cantorum of St. Peter's in the Loop. It is an album of music about the Second Coming and has the Lomakin piece on it.

Hope this helps!
