The mission of the ACDA is to inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.

Hello student chapters of ACDA!

I am the president of student ACDA at Samford University in Birmingham, AL and I've been looking for a way to get in touch with members from other chapters around the country. It's our chapters first year in existence but we're trying to get as active as we can as quickly as possible!
Things we're doing:
-Set up teaching opportunities through local high school teachers (warm ups, sectionals, whatever the teacher needs really, just trying to get out in schools more)
-Holding workshops (our last one was a method for teaching music theory to students in an ensemble setting allowing them to progress at different rates, pretty interesting!)
-Trying to get as many people as possible to the National Convention in Dallas (We're Christmas caroling to raise money, and it's actually working out pretty well for us... We're also pestering our SGA senate for funding... Any tips on how to most effectively go about this?)
-We're hoping to start interest groups focused on researching specific subject matter this spring (Baltic Choral Music, Score Study, Conducting Studies, etc)
-We'll aslo be having a Show Choir panel in the Spring (Not something everyone is crazy about, I know, but none the less something that we need to be aware of and able to handle if we're thrown into it!)
I'm trying to make our chapter an asset to our students and something that really helps them better prepare themselves for life after college by offering as much professional development and as many opportunities to network as possible.
I would love to hear from other chapters about what you guys are up to! I think it will be good for all of us to be bouncing ideas off of each other and communicating more regularly. I look forward to hearing from all of you and communicating/collaborating with you in the future!
