Just a quick note to call attention to a series of collaborative programs this Fall between the Blacksburg (Virginia) Children's Chorale, directed by Patrice Yearwood, and the Blacksburg Community Strings, conducted by Ake-Eric Renqvist.
We have already collaborated on our combined Fall Concert, a first for both ensembles and an opportunity for me to write string accompaniment additions for a number of octavos sung by the Children's Chorale. And just this week we repeated some music and added some additional music for a joint program at Warm Hearth Reitrement Community for a capacity audience.
We have one more collaboration coming up, just a bit more elaborate. The Town of Blacksburg Holiday Pops Concert will feature collaborations with the Blacksburg Community Band, directed by Ed Schwartz, the Blacksburg Community Strings, and Blacksburg Children's Chorale, along with vocal soloists and (of course!!!) Santa Claus. And again, after a number of years of providing a few new arrangements every year, we'll be doing a number of things that I've written or arranged, including an original new version of "T'was the Night Before Christmas."
It's been great fun working together, and a very positive experience for everyone involved. And the Strings have one additional collaboration coming up, assisting the Blacksburg Master Chorale in their annual Messiah Singalong (following their biannual formal Messiah with a professional orchestra). I can heartily recommend trying something of the kind to those who are in a position to do so. It's well worth figuring out the elaborated rehearsal schedules!
All the best,
