Verdi’s Requiem is one of the best loved choral works in the repertory, with its operatic blend of powerful choral writing, dramatic solo passages and striking orchestration. Written in memory of the writer and national hero Alessandro Manzoni, its second performance, at the famous opera house of La Scala, Milan, was greeted with tumultuous applause. This performance renews a partnership between the Newcastle Bach Choir, talented young singers and instrumentalists from Newcastle University, and soloists drawn from the distinguished ranks of Samling Scholars.
