Healing the Brokenhearted-Memorial Concert in Chicago

In a compassionate response to the tragic loss of lives of the youngsters and their teachers in Newtown, CN, this concert is being given by Chicago area musicians, both young and old alike. Led by conductor, Doreen Rao, five Chicagoland children's choirs will unite their voices in a Missa Brevis, especially commissioned for the event by Chicago composer, Lita Grier.
Interspersed with the mass each choir will offer individual selections: Anima Young Singers of Chicago- Emily Ellsworth, director, Soul Children of Chicago-Walt Whitman, director, Red Rose Children's Chorus- Jacquelyn Ault Negus and Sharon Augsburger, co-directors, Hyde park Neighborhood Choir of Chicago Children's Chorus- Molly Stone, director, Pro Musica Youth Chorus-William Chin, director. They will sing works by Franz Biebl, Dan Forrest and Eleanor Daley.
The Saint James Cathedral Choir (Bruce Barber, choir master) joined by the William Ferris Chorale (Paul French, director) will offer the Introit and Im Paradisum from Faure's Requiem. Soprano, Michelle Areyzaga, bass, Levi Hermandez and tenor, David Portillo will offer solo songs by Wayland Rogers, Ricky Ian Gordon and Aaron Copland.
Accompanying the Grier Mass and the selections from the Faure Requiem will be string players from the Chicago Youth Symphony.
The concert will take place at St. James Episcopal Cathedral, Wabash and Huron, Chicago, IL on Sunday,
January 13 at 5 p.m.
