ACDA/Choralnet Student Involvement Initiative
Date: January 14, 2013
My name is Christopher Barbee and I'm the president of Samford University's student chapter of ACDA in Birimingham, AL. I'm working on increasing communication, and collaboration between the student chapters because I believe there is much we could all learn from each other and numerous ways we could help each other be more relevant to our members.
One thing I've noticed is that the Student Forum on choralnet is:
[a] relatively small (just over 50 members out of countless choral students nationwide)
[b] doesn't represent many student chapters (counting members who have created profiles and list there university, I think there are less than 10 schools respesented)
[c] has very little activity taking place on it. (thousands of views, no replies, very little discussion being brought up)
I think we are failing to take advantage of a wonderful opportunity.
I know all of you are extremely busy, but if you can find time I was wondering if you could:
[a] tell your students to join our facebook group (We want to meet them!)
[b] make sure the members of your chapter have joined choralnet and are members of the Student ACDA Forum (Your members deserve to be taking part in this tremendous resource!)
[c] GET YOUR STUDENTS TO COME TO THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN DALLAS AND TAKE PART IN THE STUDENT FORUM THAT WILL BE OCCURRING!
I would really appreciate any help you could offer me regarding this issue. I am convinced that if we take advantage of the resources available to us all the students at all of our chapters could have access to limitless learning options and it will increase the effectiveness and success of all our chapters. Thank you for your time!
