Location: Oregon, USA
The February 15 deadline is near for applications to the Oregon Bach Festival Master Class in Conducting, June 27 - July 10, 2013 in Eugene. Participants will prepare and conduct performances of Bach's St. John Passion under the direction of master teacher Helmuth Rilling.
The program accepts up to 12 conductors by audition, who will work with Rilling, faculty, the OBF orchestra, chorus and soloists in two weeks of rehearsals and seminars, culminating in four public lecture-concerts of Bach's masterwork.
In this culminating year of Rilling's long tenure as OBF artistic director, this will be the last opportunity for conducting students to learn from the acclaimed maestro's insights and his distinctive rehearsal/performance format.
The class is also open to auditors, with a range of options to accommodate budget and schedules. All participants live and work alongside the resident chorus, orchestra, and artistic staff, creating further opportunities for collaboration, friendships, and artistic growth. The class fees include tickets to attend concerts featuring such luminaries as Rilling, Tamara Wilson, Matthew Halls, and Anton Armstrong.
Applications require a video of the applicant in rehearsal and performance, among other materials. Financial aid is available for conducting participants; deadline for conducting applicants is February 15.
