Cordus Mundi & Bel Canto Children’s Chorus To Collaborate

Location: Pennsylvania, USA
Choir type: Other Choirs
Voicing: Mixed
Bucks County-based male a cappella group Cordus Mundi will present a collaborative vocal concert with the Bel Canto Children’s Chorus on Saturday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Doylestown. The program includes independent concert sets from each group, as well as several pieces sung together by the combined choirs.
The Bel Canto Children’s Chorus, under the direction of Joy Hirokawa, was founded in 1993 and is comprised of auditioned treble singers from five counties in southeastern Pennsylvania. The choir has developed an international reputation for performing diversified choral repertoire at the highest standard of musical excellence and style. In the summer of 2011 the choir was awarded the American Prize in the Children’s Chorus Category, and brought home silver medals from their 2012 performances at the World Choir Games. Bel Canto Children’s Chorus has been featured by the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and has sung in Carnegie Hall, New York City. Bel Canto’s Concert Choir is preparing to travel to Germany for a solo tour in the Summer of 2013.
Formed in 2005, Cordus Mundi is comprised of fifteen male singers from the greater Bucks County area. The group’s repertoire includes music from the 12th through the 21st centuries, and covers a wide range of composers and styles.  Cordus Mundi members have their musical roots in a variety of area singing groups; the group currently counts two conductors, two composers, and three arrangers among its number.  Cordus Mundi performs regularly throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties.
“We’ve enjoyed a wonderful musical relationship with Joy and the Bel Canto kids over the years,” notes Cordus Mundi founder/artistic director Rick Rosen. “Joy is a tremendous and inspiring musician, and we believe that Bel Canto is no doubt the best children’s chorus in our area – the most creative, the most musical, the most alive, and the most fun! This will be a very cool concert.”
The Cordus Mundi/Bel Canto Collaboration concert will be held on March 2 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 301 N. Main St., Doylestown, PA. Tickets for this performance are $15, with children under 12 admitted at no charge.
