Lecturers and seminar topics will be considered from the standpoint of what will benefit choral scholars at the highest level. We are concerned with covering a broad base of topics at an advanced level: choral repertoire from lesser known countries and cultures, musicological topics, choral techniques, and interpretive styles all taught by experts
Each lecturer invited by the Artistic Advisory Committee will receive a half-week registration, transportation to and from the 2 Seoul Airports, four night’s lodging and meals with a maximum daily meal allowance to be determined.
Each lecturer is responsible for obtaining permission from the appropriate publishers to duplicate materials they plan to present. WCS10 will copy these materials up to 6 single-sided pages if needed.
Seminar proposals are to be submitted by March 10, 2013. These written proposals should be 2-3 pages (maximum) in length containing the session topic and a detailed description/focus of the proposed presentation. Please indicate if you are anticipating on incorporating live performers in your session or any special equipment needs that the Artistic Advisory Committee should know as your proposal is reviewed. As you are formulating your proposal, please note that actual seminar sessions are expected to be 75 minutes in length. USE OF WRITTEN MATERIALS
A written outline with a bibliography and discography is REQUIRED for each seminar. These seminars will help the participants attending your seminar especially when time is short to present a large quantity of information. They also serve as a guide for lecturers whose spoken English is not very clear. If English is the fluent language of the Lecturer, WSCM10 must provide a translator.
SEMINARS INCORPORATING LIVE PERFORMERS
It is very important to plan the moments when the choir or instrumentalists will participate in the session. In order to create initial interest in the seminar presentation, it is advisable to open the lecture with the performing ensemble. The performers should not be inactive for long periods of time. It is possible to make their appearances short and interesting. If you plan to demonstrate your points using soloists, you may also consider involving the soloists and encouraging them to share their perspectives on the music as part of your presentation.
SEMINARS INCORPORATING RECORDED MATERIALS
Be sure that you have carefully prepared the material in the order to be played with a written play list to aid the technical assistant, so that the material is provided in an orderly and efficient manner. You will need to confirm your equipment needs with the Symposium office no later than January 15, 2014.
It is important to to mention the performing groups being heard on an recorded excerpt. A written discography that indicates the source of ALL recorded materials used in the seminar, as well as other recorded materials recommended for future research is REQUIRED.
SEMINARS INCORPORATING PRINTED MUSIC
You will need to to determine if you will need actual scores for your seminar or will simply utilize excerpts. Excerpts of the music may be given to the audience as handouts provided the proper copyright permission has been secured from the publisher prior to the reproduction. Requests for printed musical scores as well as your requirements for equipment needed to present your music must be made no later than January 15, 2014 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
PARTICIPATION OF THE AUDIENCE
You are encouraged to allocate a portion of your seminar for audience participation. You may prepare some short examples for them to sing or you may wish to prepare a few questions for a short discussion.
