singing vacations/holidaysDate: March 1, 2013 Views: 1759
I would like to find information on singing vacations/holidays in U.S., Europe or Canada. This would be for an individual, not a choir. I am aware of the Berkshire Choral Festival, would like to find out about additional similar opportunities. Thanks!

Another singing vacation in the New England area is a week, August 11- 17, 2013, at Camp Ogontz near Littleton, NH, sponsored by the Chorus of Westerly (RI), and led by English choral conductor David Hill. Details at http://www.chorusofwesterly.org/site/PageServer?pagename=education_symposia

Hello Nancy,
Consider Festival 500: Sharing the Voices in St. John’s, Newfoundland (Jul3 3 to 10 this year). This is one of the best festivals I have ever been to. You can sing in the Adult Massed Choir (this year conducted by Bob Chilcott), sing in the Festival Choir (conducted by Sandra Snow), hear a wide array of international choirs and vocal ensembles in concert (adult and youth), go to workshops given by eminent choral musicians as well experience the warm hospitality of Newfoundlanders and enjoy breathtaking scenery. The website is www.festival500.com.

Hi Nancy
I went to Festival 500 mentioned below by Patricia Abbott. It was a great event and is everything she says in her post. If you are looking for a workshop type environment where you can attend various sessions both instrumental and vocal and have a chance to participate in an abbreviated (learned in one week) broadway show, you might consider attending Lakefield Music Camp - http://lakefieldmusic.ca/. One of the people I met at Lakefield told me about Peter Dent's Sing to the Lord tour. People from around the world learn the chosen music on their own and join together in Prague to form a choir that performs in some amazing churches while on a bus tour thorugh Europe. You'll find the iteneray for this year at http://www.peterdent.com/sttl_2013_.html. I've particiapted in these three and would recommend them to anyone.
There was also a post through ChoralNet just the other day for RelaxSing for a week in Tusany. http://www.choralnet.org/view/411925. The King's Singers are holding a summer school in July 2013 with details on their website. The following is a list I recently sent to my fellow choir members with a bunch of other opportunities.

Hi Nancy,
I publish a community singing website with information about all kinds of singing workshops and holidays and events all over the world. You will find plenty of singing vacations listed there: www.worldharmonyfolk.org
If it is an invitation to anyone to come and sing, I will post it online as a community service for singers. Just drop me an email...
Happy singing,

I lead singing workshops that have a different slant than the above. I call them "Singing with Courage". They are not performance-driven. There's no sheet music, and there's no judgment. They're designed to help people find their voices and improve as singers. We create a supportive and fun atmosphere that encourages folks to find the courage to confront their fears and self-criticism. Sometimes it's about much more than mere singing! I have one coming up in June in New Hampshire. I also do one every winter in Hawaii ! http://jonandjames.com/Vocal_Workshops.html Message me more information if you're interested.

Hi Nancy,
I've just seen your post and thought I would let you know about our singing holidays and retreats. We run fun and uplifting soul, jazz, gospel singing experiences here in the UK, in southern Spain and on the beautiful island of Barbados. They are for people who enjoy singing, for singers of all levels who just want to meet new friends and have a great time singing in stunning surroundings. For more information please visit http://singingholidaysandretreats.com/ and http://www.barbadossingingholidays.com/.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes and happy singing!!

Hi Nancy, and other interested singers!
The Western Wind Vocal Ensemble holds wonderful workshops, focusing mainly on small group ensemble singing. Weekend and 5-day sessions are held at Smith College, Northampton, MA during the summer, and sessions are held at other venues during the rest of the year (a one-day workshop coming up in Scarsdale, NY, on June 1). The ensemble members are remarkable singers, teachers and facilitators, and there is a great variety of music for all levels of participants. See their website! www.westernwind.org
