Bonhoeffer, by Thomas Lloyd
Sunday, March 10, 2013 4:00 PM
The Philadelphia Cathedral
Featuring the Men of The Crossing, chamber orchestra, solo dancers Tim Early and Carrie Ellmore-Tallitsch, and three soloists from The Crossing: Maren Montalbano Brehm, Leslie Johnson, and Rebecca Siler. Familiar local conductor Thomas Lloyd is less known for his formidable composing gifts; we are happy to sing the world premiere of this concert-length work at the invitation of the Philadelphia Cathedral. Lloyd has constructed a moving, provocative libretto from Bonhoeffer – the great theologian – words, alternating with scenes of his dramatic life (returning to Germany as a leader of the Confessing Church which resisted the Lutheran Church’s capitulation to Germany’s fascist government, falling in love, plotting to assassinate Adolf Hitler, arrest and execution in the weeks before the war’s end). With movement, dancers and an instrumental ensemble, this will be a thought-provoking, timely event.
FREE PARKING has been provided for concert-goers. Available directly across from the Cathedral; enter the open lot on 39th Street between Market and Chestnut. Tickets: http://thecrossing.ticketleap.com/bonhoeffer
