Keyboard Note Input to Sibelius

Does anyone on ChoralNet have and know the ins and outs of Sibelius the desktop music publishing software program? I'm having trouble connecting my keyboard to the computer. I think it's a MIDI routing problem but am not making any progress having the keyboard talk to the computer. Help please?

Lowell,

There are probably lots of people on this list with varying degrees of experience with Sibelius (me included), but you'll need to give specific information about your equipment and exactly what you've tried, and what the result is.

When I bought a new MIDI interface, at first I reversed the "in" and "out" connections.  When I bought my new computer, I found that one of the USB ports didn't like my MIDI interface and the others did.  So the problem can be many things.

There are also Sibelius-specific chat boards that you might want to investigate.

Good luck;  I know this is a frustrating issue.

Best wishes,

Larry,

Thank you for your quick response. My son found, what he thinks may have been the problem. Instructions gathered online said, "Midi In to Midi Out and Midi Out to Midi In". That didn't work so he went Midi In to Midi In and Out to Out. He then used a different USB port on my computer and also re-installed the drivers. That seemed to solve the problem. I've putzed with it a bit earlier this evening and Sebelius is recording what I've played on the keyboard.

Thanks again,

Lowell

Lowell:  I'm presently doing exactly that, using an M-Audio Oxygen 8 MIDI keyboard.  (I assume that you are talking about a MIDI keyboard rather than the regular typewriter ASCII keyboard.)

It is indeed a MIDI problem, and I'm not technical enough to help you.  The one thing I do know is that you have to find Sibelius's "Preferences" and under that its "Input Devices" let it search for your keyboard.  But I couldn't get mine to work until my son had found me and installed the proper driver for it.  You need a computer-savvy person.
All the best,
John

John,

I found a computer-savvy person in my son Lucas. He has it working although I've not had time this evening to use it. The process my son used in in a post to Larry Kent.

Thanks for your reply,

Lowell

Yes, I have! My son and daughter have pulled my hams out of the fire many times as I have theirs. We have a good symbiotic relationship when it comes to ...hams and fire. :) Thanks for the reply.
