Young Music Director Trying to Find His Way
Date: March 10, 2013
I am a young director (22) and I am am still relatively new to church choir directing (I say "relatively" because I have been a director for two years, but up until a few months ago my growth as a director was slowed by the less than ideal situation I was in at my previous church). I feel kind of lost since I really haven't had a lot of experience. I feel like there's so much about music ministry and choir directing--and I have no idea where to start! I am trying to learn about exactly what it takes to lead a music ministry, such as:
1) what qualities should I be cultivating in a choir?
2) How do you come up with different ideas from Sunday to Sunday?
3) Song/Hymn selection
4) Music for special times of the year
5)The spiritual element: The whole notion of "having a vision" for the choir/music ministry
In essence, I just want to know how it all works (because quite frankly, I feel a little clueless and have been kind of stubling through so far!) Any thoughts/insights are most welcome (and greatly needed!) Thanks in advance.
Yours In Christ
