Concert by the Lea Singers - War & Peace - Haydn Nelson Mass & Duruflé Requiem - 27 April
Date: March 19, 2013
Location: England, United Kingdom
Concert at St Mary's Church, Culverhay, Wotton-Under-Edge, Gloucs, GL12 7BT, UK as part of the Wotton Arts Festival on Saturday 27 April 2013 at 7:30pm
The Lea Singers choir was founded in 1960. During the last fifty two years it has given over 350 concerts and sung 1,500 different pieces of music. The choir has sung in 15 cathedrals, in 105 different venues, has toured in six different countries and made six recordings.
For the concert on Saturday they will perform two great choral works - Haydn’s Nelson Mass and the Duruflé Requiem, both pieces with organ accompaniment: a particular pleasure for the Duruflé, which started out as an organ piece based on plainchant melodies. This gives them the opportunity to work again with James Sherlock, a former conductor and a truly inspiring organist. Helen Neeves is the soprano soloist, and the other solo parts will be sung by members of the choir. Benjamin Goodson is their talented young conductor.
