Conductors Institute of Southwestern University
The 2013 Institute will feature G. F. Handel’s great oratorio, Messiah. The Institute Chorus will be present each evening to be rehearsed by Institute participants. The Institute Orchestra will be present  for the last three evenings, culminating in an informal performance conducted by the participants.  Dr. Kenny Sheppard and Mr. Brad Bouley will lead master classes in conducting and score study.
All participants must arrive with a full score in hand, Novello edition.  No photocopies will be allowed.
During the five-day workshop, each participant will conduct a portion of Messiah and receive feedback from Mr. Bouley and Dr. Sheppard.  Mr. Bouley will lead a general conducting technique lab each day.  Dr. Sheppard will lead sessions on preparing Messiah for rehearsals and performance.

Directions to Southwestern University:
From Austin take IH-35 north: take Exit 261 East (this is Hwy 29).  Follow Texas Highway 29 east into Georgetown, approximately 1.5 miles.  After passing the railroad tracks, continue on Hwy 29 to the third street - turn left on E. Rutersville (you will see Grace Episcopal Church on your right).  E. Rutersville  is really the entrance to the Fine Arts Parking Lot.  Enter the Fine Arts Bldg. and walk straight until you must turn.  Turn right to the Alma Thomas Theater.
You may also reach Southwestern by taking toll road 130 north (130 intersects with toll road 45 a few miles east of I35).  From toll road 130, turn West on Hwy 29 and you will come to the Fine Arts Bldg.  as you top the hill coming  into Georgetown.  Turn right on E. Rutersville into the Fine Arts Parking lot.

Dr. Kenny Sheppard, Conductor
Dr. Kenny Sheppard is Professor of Music at Southwestern University at Georgetown, Texas. Sheppard's guest appearances include the Austin Symphony Orchestra, International Festival- Institute at Round Top, Big Spring Symphony, Austin Civic Orchestra, Austin Youth Orchestra, and numerous choral and orchestral festivals throughout the country. Sheppard made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2004 as a guest conductor for Mid- America Productions.  In 2008 he lead Chorus Austin in a concert tour of Budapest, Hungary and Prague, Czech Republic.  In 2010 he served as a guest conductor for KI Concerts in a performance of Haydn’s Paukenmesse at the Oriental Arts Centre in Shanghai, China. Most recently, he led the Southwestern University Chorale on a tour of Italy, performing in St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and other churches.
Sheppard is known for his experience conducting choral works with orchestra. He has more than seventy such works in his repertoire. Since 2005 Sheppard has served as conductor for the Georgetown TX Festival of the Arts, for which he has conducted such works as Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms, St. Paul by Mendelssohn, The Creation by Haydn, Israel in Egypt and Samson by Handel, and Stabat Mater by Dvorak.
Sheppard joined the Southwestern University faculty in Georgetown, Texas, in 1974. As Professor of Music, he conducts the University Chorale and teaches courses related to conducting and teacher preparation. He also conducted the Southwestern University Orchestra for thirteen years, performing with the University Chorale at the Southwest Division meeting of the American Choral Directors' Association in 1994. Under his leadership, the Southwestern University Chorale has performed at the Orchestra of Santa Fe Bach Festival, for state and national music conventions, and with the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
A devoted teacher, Dr. Sheppard has mentored many students who now hold positions as conductors and teachers in public schools, churches, and universities. He is the Director of the Conductors' Institute of Southwestern University, now in its 20th year serving conductors at all stages of professional development.
 
MR. BRAD BOULEY

Brad Bouley is founder and Artistic Director of the Texas Master Chorale, serves as Director of Fine Arts for the Tomball ISD, and he is the Executive Director for Region IX University Interscholastic League’s Music Division.
Prior to accepting his present positions, he was Director of Choirs at Tomball High School for over twenty years.  Mr. Bouley holds degrees from The University of Oklahoma and Sam Houston State University in music education and conducting.  He is active throughout the state as a choral adjudicator and clinician.  Mr. Bouley is past Region Chairman of the Texas Music Educators Association, Region IX and past Area Chairman for TMEA, Area D.  In 1993, he was the recipient of the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding Teacher and in 1998 was recognized by the Tomball Rotary International with the Award for Community Service.   Mr. Bouley is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, ACDA, TCDA, TMEA, TMAC, TETA, and TMAA.
As the conductor of the Texas Master Chorale Mr. Bouley has prepared and performed numerous choral/orchestral masterworks such as Messiah by Handel, Lord Nelson Mass by Haydn, Magnificat and Christ lag in Todesbanden by Bach, Gloria’s by Rutter, Poulenc and Vivaldi, Ein Deutches Requiem by Brahms, Requiems by Fauré, Duruflé and Mozart, Vesperae solennes de confessore by Mozart, and Mass in C Major by Beethoven to name a few.
