Summer Pedagogy Workshops in Saint LouisDate: April 8, 2013 Views: 382 Location: Missouri, USA
WEBSTER UNIVERSITY in Saint Louis is pleased to offer four different short-term summer workshops in June and July, each one designed to enrich the classroom/studio/rehearsal experience. Each workshop meets for 15-16 hours during one week only; each can serve as one (1) continuing education unit for Missouri teachers.
Designed as a booster/refresher/energizer for those who wish to gain new ideas or concepts, these workshops are almost as good as a summer vacation, but much less expensive!
THE WORKSHOPS:
Vocal Pedagogy, June 10-12. For all who teach voice, whether in the choral rehearsal or in the studio. Dr. Scott McCoy of The Ohio State University is the headliner, with Webster faculty sharing in their respective areas of expertise. Last year's workshop was a big hit! http://www.webster.edu/fine-arts/departments/music/summer-programs/vocal-pedagogy.html
Theory Pedagogy, June 11-13. Designed for those who work with middle school and high school students, and especially helpful for those who find themselves teaching a theory class or module, but who may never have thought about how to teach music theory and aural skills. Dr. Carla Colletti brings latest research, humor, and loads of experience to this workshop. http://www.webster.edu/fine-arts/departments/music/summer-programs/theory-pedagogy.html
Jazz Pedagogy, June 24-26. We know jazz when we hear it, but how do we teach it? Webster University joins with Jazz St. Louis to present the collected wisdom of faculty jazz masters and Saint Louis-area jazz gurus in this workshop specifically designed for music educators. http://www.webster.edu/fine-arts/departments/music/summer-programs/jazz-pedagogy-workshop.html
Finale Boot Camp, July 15-19. You own Finale. Now what? This boot camp, led by adjunct professor Tim Garcia, will give you the skills necessary to use this software effectively, and provide numerous ideas about integrating Finale into your teaching. http://www.webster.edu/fine-arts/departments/music/summer-programs/finale_boot_camp.html
Full details about each workshop (bios, schedules, activities, topics) are on line at the links provided above. Registration forms are linked from each page. Each workshop is designed to be practical . . . experiential . . . hands-on . . . useful. These workshops are priced as continuing education activities rather than as graduate credit. The summer programs main page, also including links to student camps and events from the Community Music School, is http://www.webster.edu/fine-arts/departments/music/summer-programs/.
Please do call on me with questions about any of these events! And please take a look at the workshops that are of interest to you. We do hope to see you at Webster this summer!
