Davidson College is a nationally recognized, highly selective independent liberal arts college located just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, in the town of Davidson. Founded in 1837 by Presbyterians, today it enrolls approximately 2,000 men and women. With an active Honor Code, a student-faculty ratio of 11:1, and athletic teams competing at the level of NCAA Division I, this historic 450-acre campus is an ideal choice for students who seek a vigorous undergraduate education in a residential environment.
The Music Department at Davidson College offers a wide variety of opportunities for performance and study for all students including a symphony orchestra, three choirs, jazz ensemble, and various chamber music groups. The recently renovated Sloan Music Center is home to superb practice facilities, an electronic music studio, a music library, classrooms, instrumental and choral rehearsal halls, and the Tyler-Tallman Recital Hall.
Choral Activities at Davidson College include three unique choral ensembles. Davidson College Chorale is the premier choral ensemble at Davidson. A highly select, auditioned choir comprised of students from various academic disciplines, they perform the standard choral repertoire as well as newly composed and commissioned choral literature. The Chorale tours annually and represents Davidson College on the campus, regionally and nationally. The Davidson College Choral Arts Society provides the opportunity for collaboration between Davidson students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the surrounding community to sing a cappella choral literature and the finest choral/orchestral repertoire with instrumentalists from the Charlotte Symphony and professional soloists from Davidson and the surrounding area. Davidson Singers is an entry-level ensemble that helps students to develop rudimentary vocal and aural skills in an engaging choral environment. Concert engagements include their bi-annual performance with the Choral Arts Society, and appearances in other campus concerts and functions.
