Finding "work" in the Choral field (other than the traditional ways)

Hello all,

As we know, the economy these days is horrible. It's hard enough just to find one job, but I'm hoping others can give some constructive, helpful advice or direction to my questions and concerns. As Choral music lover like us all, I've been in field since about 4th grade. (LOL) There hasn't been a day while I was in school (all the way through my Master's) that I wasn't singing in a choir. My questions are these: Other than the traditional teaching job, or church, community choir, or adjudication opportunities, what are other ways that a Choral conductor can find "work" in the field? I don't know about much of you, but I'm a middle aged husband and father with about 12 years of teaching experience. I've taught high school choir, college, and elementary school. I've had a church job and I currently conduct a community choir. I also have a few publication. However, the problem is that there never seems enough, meaning 1. finacially, and 2. enough opportunities to make more....especially in the summer months. Is it a matter of location? Is it a matter of  "who you know"? Neworking? Is having the terminal degree the solution? Does a person who choose the profession of "Choral Director" have to ultimately have two or three jobs to be considered finacially secure? Is there anyone who either feels, is or has gone through what I'm experiencing?
