Paid Choral Scholars - San Antonio, Texas

Location: San Antonio, Texas, USA

The St. Paul's Choral Scholar Program is open to all high school and university/college students in the San Antonio area, and was created to give these singers an opportunity to lead in worship services through presenting the finest sacred choral music.  The focus of a Choral Scholar is to study, rehearse, and perform music from diverse historical and cultural traditions for a community actively committed to excellence in sacred choral music.

For more information on how you can join this exciting program and to schedule an audition, contact John Hare, Director of Music, at johnhare@stpauls-satx.org or 210-238-0425 (cell), 210-226-0345 (church).

The St. Paul's Choral Scholar Program awards six scholarships each year for students over the age of 16, and here are just some of the benefits to being a St. Paul’s Choral Scholar:

  • Singing the finest music at a high level with other professional musicians
  • Payment for your time
  • Additional fees from concerts, weddings, funerals, etc.
  • Recordings

The diverse and extensive repertoire coupled with the regular program of Sunday services and special events ensures a furtherance of your musical experience and ability.

Each scholar attends weekly Saturday morning rehearsals, sings for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service and for Choral Evensongs and other special events and services throughout the year. Such a commitment demands good voices and a reasonably good sight-reading ability. The Scholarships are available for Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass/Baritone, and are awarded solely on merit throughout the year.
