Auditions for Valley Concert Chorale’s 50th Anniversary Season

Celebration performance of “Carmina Burana”; Morten Lauridsen Festival with Morten Lauridsen

The Valley Concert Chorale, the Tri-Valley’s premier chorus, is now scheduling appointments for auditions for singers who would like to be a part of the Chorale’s 50th Anniversary season of 2013-2014.  Auditions will be held on the following dates:
 
  • Monday, May 13 and 20
  • Monday, June 3
 
Auditions and rehearsals are held at the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore. The church is located at 2020 Fifth Street.
 
The Chorale is seeking experienced singers with sight-reading skills who enjoy singing exciting and challenging music. The Chorale performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical to contemporary, and folk to jazz. To schedule an appointment, call (925) 462-4205.
 
The 50th Anniversary concert season will feature the following performances and events:
  • October: The Best of the Best – The Top 10 Choruses, featuring those by Handel, Bach, Brahms, Mozart and more.
  • December: Winter Wonderland, featuring Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and familiar holiday songs.
  • March 2014: A Choral Spectacular, featuring Carmina Burana at the Bankhead Theater, and a performance on the peninsula in collaboration with the Masterworks Chorale of San Mateo.
  • May 2014: A Morten Lauridsen Festival with Morten Lauridsen, featuring two performances of all-Lauridsen choral selections and choral workshop that will include local high schools and colleges led by Mr. Lauridsen.

About Valley Concert Chorale
The Valley Concert Chorale, now in its 49th season, is the Tri-Valley’s premier chorus. Under the direction of John Emory Bush, the Chorale has offered a variety of musical performances to serve the diverse musical tastes of its audiences.
 
Valley Concert Chorale’s mission is to engage audiences in the transforming power of music by sharing their passion and joy in live performance. They are dedicated to excellence in singing choral music of all genres, nurturing the next generation of singers, and supporting musical endeavors in the Tri-Valley community.
 
The Chorale’s educational outreach program Music in the Schools, presents original musical performances at Tri-Valley primary school assemblies to celebrate the joy of music and singing with area students. The all-volunteer, non-profit chorale receives financial support from grants, ticket sales, membership dues, fundraisers and donations.
 
About the Director
John Emory Bush has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Valley Concert Chorale since 1998. He holds a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music and is also trained as a pianist, organist and harpist. In addition, he is the Music Director and Conductor of the San Francisco Concert Chorale and former Director of Music for St. Matthew's Cathedral in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Bush was recently appointed Principal Organist at First United Methodist Church, McKinney, Texas. For the past twelve years, Mr. Bush has divided his time between the Bay Area and Dallas, contributing to both musical communities.
