St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church seeks a qualified individual for the position of Music Director. The Music Director position is three-quarter to full-time, contingent on the candidate’s training and experience. The person called to this position will serve as organist, director of the adult choir, and liturgical music planner and coordinator. The Music Director will join a talented team of lay and ordained staff at St. John’s and will be invited to share in a collaborative ministry of creating liturgy and inviting our whole congregation into an experience of God through music.
The music program at St. John's engages people of all ages in a wide range of musical possibilities: adult choir, youth choir, children's choir, hand bell choir, and an instrumental ensemble. The Music Director position requires a musician possessing excellence as an organist and choral conductor, as well as experience with the Episcopal liturgy and musical tradition and thorough knowledge of the classical Christian repertoire. The successful candidate will also have a record of adaptable, creative, and collaborative leadership. The organ, an historic four manual E.M. Skinner instrument, was restored in 2008 and now has 55 ranks and 3,455 pipes in six divisions.
