Just one of many interest sessions led by distinguished Massachusetts musicians as part of MassACDA's 2013 Summer Conference at Hampshire College (Amherst), July 24-26, "Britten's Music for Children" will be offered by Joshua Nannestad, currently completing doctoral studies at BU with a dissertation on Britten's Noyes Fludde, and Marie Stultz, director of the Young Opera Company of New England, a lifelong scholar of this Britten repertory. Other sessions of particular interest to choral conductors who work with kids: "Teaching rhythmic literacy" (Michael Driscoll), "Working with urban and economically disadvantaged youth" (Jane Money), "Fun and games to promote bonding and esprit in ensembles of all ages" (KC Conlan and Cathy Melhorn), and "Vocal health for choral teachers" (Chandler Thompson), also a reading session for children & youth (Janet St. Jean & KC Conlan) and Dalcroze eurythmics classes, led by clinician Lisa Parker. Clinician Dr. Joe Miller's presentations--"Building Artistry," "Building Sound through Vocalise," "Voicing, Formant Identification and Tuning," and "Musical Architect: Teaching from the Blueprint" will inspire conductors at all levels, at every career stage.
