Jenkins' "The Armed Man" by Stambaugh Chorus: the U.S. Premiere of Concert Band Version

Location: Ohio, USA
Choir type: Community Choirs
Voicing: Mixed
The Stambaugh Chorus of Youngstown OH celebrates its 60th anniversary of choral music making in North-East Ohio with the U.S. premiere performance of concert band version of Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace on Sunday, May 19, 2013, 4 pm at the Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44504 under the baton of Hae-Jong Lee.

The concert will be in collaboration with the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band. Featuring soloists will be Kayla Wilson, soprano; Rachael Pavloski, mezzo-soprano; Victor Cardamone, tenor; and David Pratt and Raymond Wagner, Jr, baritones.  Featuring cellist is Fr. Vit.  The accompanying film produced by OPUS will be featured simultaneously on a large screen with the musical performance.

Alternating between scenes of war and the Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, and Benedictus of the Latin Mass, The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace challenges audiences to find and tread the path from war to peace.  The composition was dedicated to the victims of Kosovo.   I find this monumental choral-orchestral work so appropriate to share a desperate message of searching peace in this troubled world.  As the documentary film reminds us of stark scenes of war, the tearfully beautiful music heals the scars born of the suffering from war.
It is a great honor for two local community ensembles to collaborate in the world premiere performance of the chorus/concert band version of this great work in Youngstown area.

Tickets for $10 will be available at the door and can be reserved in advance by calling the Stambaugh Auditorium box office at 330-259-0555 or by visiting stambaughauditorium.com.

Hope you can join us to celebrate "PEACE" with the beautiful music and powerful film.
