Director of Music Ministry

Location: Covina, California, USA
Covina United Methodist Church is looking for a Director of Music Ministry who will join a team committed to a ministry of reaching non and nominally churched persons for Christ. While membership in the United Methodist Church is not required, sympathy for the mission of the denomination (“Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world”) is necessary.
The congregation currently has a very solid worship base grounded in traditional mainline Protestant practices. This worship provides deep connections to those raised in and familiar with mainline worship. The plan is to strengthen this worship experience.
The vision is to become a congregation engaged in multiple expressions of worship effectively reaching persons who are not part of a church into a life affirming and transforming encounter with Christ. The plan is to develop ensembles and musical talent capacities for diverse worship settings and experiences.
The Director of Music Ministry will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating music and worship ministry at Covina United Methodist Church.
The first year: 10 Hours Per Week
The Director will invest an average of 6 hours a week coordinating a traditional worship experience by directing a volunteer choir (selecting music, weekly rehearsing, and conducting on Sunday morning), coordinating with the organist, pastor, and worship team. The volunteer choir will sing weekly and offer three concerts a year (Christmas themed, Easter themed, and a late spring or early summer closing of the choir season concert). The Director will supervise music staff of volunteer and paid worship musicians and a children’s choir director.
The Director will be expected to invest 4 hours a week as part of a worship launch team, specifically responsible for developing instrumental ensembles and younger voices which can initially contribute to the existing worship and will foundation a different  -  contemporary worship experience.
The second year: 12 Hours Per Week
The Director will to invest an average of 6 hours per week directing a traditional worship experience by directing a volunteer choir (selecting music, weekly rehearsing, and conducting on Sunday morning), and coordinating with the organist, pastor, and worship team.
The Director will invest an average of 6 hours a week coordinating worship and music for a second worship experienced specifically focused on non and nominal churched persons and those who are of a “millennial generation” and younger cohort. This service will use praise music and the musical gifts of a variety of instruments and voices.
