Overview:
The Director of Music is one of the key leaders of the congregation and is responsible for everything musical in the life of the church. The Director of Music is a vital member of the church’s ministry staff who collaborates directly and in coordination with the pastor. The director of Music is directly responsible to the Pastor/Staff Parish Relations Committee and the pastor.
Summary of Areas of Responsibility:
Lead the adult Chancel Choir during one weekly church service and one weekly choir rehearsal. The choir typically performs in the fall, winter and spring months, with summers off. The Director of Music will provide organ/piano accompaniment for all weekly services year-round as well as special services such as Christmas Eve.
Plan the music for worship in consultation with the pastor. The pastor will be supplied with a music planner in advance which outlines music selections for the months ahead.
Lead the handbell choir in periodic rehearsals and performances during church services.
Recruit and recommend section leaders for the church choir as needed, following program and budgetary approval.
Oversee and manage the spending of the discretionary portion of the music budget.
Maintain the Music Library; honor and uphold copyright laws as they relate to the copying and distribution of copyright-protected music.
Oversee proper and adequate maintenance of the organ, pianos, handbells and chimes.
