Naming High School Choir

I need help naming my choir!  The high school where I work only has two choir classes in the day and they are BOTH essentially dumping grounds for students to just earn an arts credit.  So I started my own after-school choir group!  But we need help putting name on it...  Right now, there are students from all high school grade levels - 2 guys and 8 girls.  They are performing all types of music from spirituals to pop and hopefully we will be able to go to festival next year as a group (or S&E if they are too small for festival).  We are in Detroit, school colors are black and red, and the school mascot is a panther - these elements don't need to be in the name at all, I just included them for some background info.  If you have any suggestions, it would be a great help!  Thanks!

Have you thought about running a contest? Have students think of names for the after-school choir, and then have them vote (silent paper vote works well).

Otherwise ... Madrigals and Chamber Choir both work well.

When I started a new group two years ago, I gave the kids a one-week notice that we would brainstorm names for the group.  They came with a number of ideas and we voted for our favorite.  Rhapsody was officially "born" that day.  We do a little of everything, so it was nice to avoid labels that might identify one particular style of music.  Kids are creative.  I suggest you let them own this task.

I think having the 'kids brain storm' is great....but I would caution you to think 'what name is going to work long term'.   "Girl's 21" comes to mind....when I first heard them at a National Convention........there were close to twice that number.......they were AWESOME......but were 'stuck' with a name they had long out grown.  "Rhapsody" might work for a Women's Ensemble......but perhaps not for a mixed ensemble.  Nothing wrong with that name but as a man/boy I don't think it would encourage me to join.  ["Panther Chorale"....High School name Chorale - etc]  things like 'Madrigal' sort of put an image that may not stand the test of time.  Just some thoughts. All the best.
