Summer Choir School

We are starting a summer choir school at our church for one week this summer which will culminate in significant choral leadership in a Sunday Eucharist and a mini "concert" for the parents. The concept is two-fold; one to build upon our current enrollment and two to act as an outreach to our community. Currently we have 9 lovely young ladies in elementary school singing with us but want to move to the next level.  I am blessed to work with a former member of the American and Alabama Boychoirs and his wife and between us we have many years of working in and around the children's choir/boy choir models, particularly as it relates to the English Anglican traditions. My question is for those who have also started up this type of endeavor or have experience beginning and working with a children's choir school setting. We are probably set for curriculum but any suggestions on that front are certainly welcome. The main thing is that we want to learn from the mistakes of others as we set this up so that it is a success out of the gate. So, if anyone has suggestions and or words of caution from your own experiences please do contact me and let me know. Thank you.

Hi Rob,

I have a lot of recommendations and advice for just what you are doing on my website www.vermontboychoir.org. Probably the most important is recruit boys by recruiting their parents. The girls will always freely join the choir. Your effort and marketing should focus on reaching out to boys and their families. I would love to stay informed as your school develops. Thanks for the news.

Good luck!
