Vocal pedagogy for K-8 singers?

Hello, everyone!
I'd like to learn more about vocal pedagogy for elementary and middle school singers this summer, and I wondered if there are resources out there that you would recommend for self-study?  Books?  DVDs?
Thanks for any and all suggestions!

The Kodaly method is wonderful to learn the concepts of
rhythm and sight reading, using hand signals for solfeggio
and rhythm syllables for counting.   I took the class taught
by a teacher at Loma Linda University who had studied with
Kodaly in Hungary, but we had no textbook.   There has to
be a textbook out there somewhere.   Hope you can find one.

I used the method for about 20 years in my classroom music
programs for K-8.   Children who were monotones, by the end
of the year had a concept of scale steps and intervals, and
could carry a tune.   I still use it in my private instruction--
all ages.

There IS a textbook now!

Did a workshop with the authors at last year's OAKE conference.  It's great.

Hi Meghan,

This has good reviews, though I don't own it:
Working With Adolescent Voices (John Cooksey)

I'd also recommend 'Finding Ophelia's Voice, Opening Ophelia's Heart: Nurturing The Adolsecent Female Voice' by Lynn Gackle (deals w female voice change / maturation )

The 'Building Beautiful Voices' set of vocal exercises is great for working w young singers, and comes with an information-packed director's manual that explains the pedagogical principle behind each of the 60 or so exercises.  I use it daily in my private studio teaching.

Hope these are helpful.
